Today I want to talk to you about points of possibility (POP). Each present moment is an opportunity for your life to POP—a point at which you can connect with your values in deciding what to do or say. You can break down each POP into the Four P’s:
Pause Pick Persist or Pivot
Pause: Take a beat, recognize this is a point of possibility. Notice thoughts and feelings and ask what you want this POP to be in service of.
Pick: Now choose—what are the values you wish to live out in this context? Who is the me you want to be in this moment?
Persist or Pivot: Based on the values you “picked,” do you wish to persist with your current behavior, or pivot to a new action and/or quality of action that is more values-congruent?
Notice a desire to avoid discomfort. Doing so may offer relief in the moment, but may come at a cost to your values. Notice thoughts and choose whether listening to them will move you toward or away from values.
All we have is this one present moment. The past is gone and the future has yet to arrive. Notice the word moment. Right in the middle is the word ME. Consider what might be possible when you ask yourself, “who is the Me I most want to be in this moMEnt?” and consistently choose to act accordingly—your life just might pop.
